2010 House Music

In the annual Big House Music competition held at TelstraClear Pacific Events Centre on Friday evening, School House for the first time since 1981 took out first place, singing "Shake Your Tail Feather" by Ray Charles. House Music Captain, Kriston Batistich  and Conductor, Darcy Hunia led the boys in a fabulous rendition of the song that was much appreciated by the audience.

Kool and the Gang's "Celebration" performed by Parnell was also a crowd favourite as was Greenbank's slick choreographed version of "Waving the flag, by Knaan.

But it was Peart for the 2nd year in a row, who took out top honours for their combined points: 2nd place in Small House and 2nd place in Big House, giving them the the Overall Winning House title. Led superbly by House Music Captains, James Corbett and AJ Ieremia, their BIg House rendition of the Grease classic, "Summer Loving" was a hit!

All-in-all, it was another superb evening of entertainment for the King's community to enjoy.

Small House Music

On Friday (30th July) the annual Small House Music competition was held and the appreciative audience enjoyed a range of music as each House performed.

The afternoon started with St John's, led by Coltrane Armour-Uluiviti singing a Michael Jackson Medley. This was followed by great harmonies from Marsden with the Seal classic "Kiss From A Rose" with Matthew Tasi leading the vocals.

Peart then treated the audience to an excellent performance of "Open Happiness" led by AJ Ieremia and the fine voice of Ngataua Hukutai.

The girls Houses were next up: Middlemore singing the Christina Aguilera version of "Candyman" and Taylor House with "Watcha Say" by Jason Derulo.

A guitar solo and fine vocal performance by Kriston Batistich was included in the School House rendition of Eric Clapton's "Change the World".

Greenbank sang the popular "Come on Eileen" by Dexys Midnight Runners and then Averill, with an excellent Meatloaf sound-alike performance from Evan Couper, sang, "I would do anything for love".

The last two acts for the afternoon included Parnell's fun, unusual and entertaining "Party in the MIA" with Neslon Annandale leading the antics.

Selwyn House led by Tom Urry, closed the afternoon's competition, singing "Sweet Child o' Mine" by Guns N' Roses.

The judges: Stuart Sherwood, Anna Gibbs and Angus McKay made their decision, which was then announced by MC, Philip Coombe:

First - Greenbank
2nd - Peart
3rd - Marsden

Director of Music Stuart Sherwood comments, "House Music 2010 once again proved to be competitive and thrilling with defending champions for Small House, Greenbank, starting off by winning the Small House competiiton, once again in The Great Hall, with a rendition of 'Come on Eileen'. Going into Big House Music at Telstra, it could have been anyone's, with great costumes, good singing and some great actions. In the end School House won with a great performance of 'Shake Your Tail Feather'. Winning the competition overall though was Peart House, which came second in both Small and Big House competitions and with the higehst rankings overall. Thanks go to judges Mr Mackay and Ms Gibbs for their contribution and once again to the matrons, parents, House Music Captains, Mr Massari, Mr Coombe and Mr Mortensen for making 2010 another memorable year in the College's musical life."
