TODAY’S FOUNDATION PROVIDES FOR A SECURE TOMORROW
King’s College today is in a very sound position and the Board of Governors is determined to keep it that way. For King’s to be independent it must remain financially independent.
At King’s, financial independence depends on the philanthropic support of its community – past and present parents, Old Collegians and their families and many other who appreciate the value of a King’s education.
The King’s College Foundation is the vehicle providing financial security for the future and its goal is to create a substantial financial base to ensure the independence of King’s.
The King’s College Foundation is made up of three funds:
1) The Preserved Capital Fund which provides the financial endowment. With the capital invested the surplus income is used to meet the College’s need for scholarships or other assistance.
2) The Capital Endowment Fund holds funds for specific purpose identified by the donor, and the income is applied for that purpose. The income is primarily used for scholarships and bursaries, staff professional development and information technology.
3) Special Purpose Fund holds funds raised for a specific purpose and distributes both capital and income for that purpose.
So that King’s can maintain its position as a world-class independent school based on a tradition of academic and all round achievement it must pursue excellence with vigour in all it does. This requires broad scholarship and bursary assistance for students, the ability to attract the services of a dedicated, well qualified and experienced teaching staff as well as the continued acquisition, construction, and maintenance of buildings and playing fields to facilitate a broad based education to meet the needs and expectations of the community.
Physically, King’s needs to provide buildings, which can accommodate students with plenty of space, and furnish them with sophisticated facilities and modern equipment. Beyond the classroom, the students need areas for play and recreation, and King’s constantly needs to enhance and improve its sports facilities.
To do this we need your help.
By joining the King’s College Foundation members of the school community can support the goal of achieving the target of $20 million for the endowment fund by 2010, which will provide a long-term legacy for King’s and maintain its position as a premier independent school in New Zealand. Membership of the Foundation is open to all who wish to support King’s College, whether individuals, trusts or corporations.
The King’s College Foundation constitution requires a contribution at specified levels to achieve recognition by the Foundation.

The Foundation Board of Management have introduced the new “Associate” category with a giving level of $2,500. Donors who contribute at this level will be known as an Associate to the Foundation with their donation being credited towards membership of the Foundation.
The Foundation Membership Committee is responsible for growing the funds by attracting new members and encouraging existing members to upgrade their gift level. Since its formation, the King’s College Foundation has maintained the competitiveness and independence of King’s College in so many ways. Some examples are: - Assisting students to attend King’s - Securing staffing excellence - Buildings and facilities.
In its long history, King’s College and the King’s community have helped to provide facilities which place King’s College at the forefront of schools in New Zealand. The momentum for change and development must continue if King’s is to maintain this standing. Those who enjoy the magnificent facilities today can build on the generosity of preceding generations who have gifted us this great school. Today’s community must honour their responsibility not only to the students of today but also provide families and students of King’s who follow the base on which the school will grow.
We need your support – please consider membership of the Foundation carefully.
